How to Create FAFSA Pin
Applying for a Federal PIN, or Personal Identification Number, is a simple process that will allow you to electronically file and sign your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) materials. Be sure to assemble the required information before you begin, and then the application itself takes only a few moments. You will use this PIN number for your yearly electronic FAFSA filings while in college. It will allow you to access and update your records, and is considered a binding legal signature for online FAFSA forms.

Assemble your personal information, including your address and Social Security number.

Visit the Federal Student Aid PIN website (see References) and click "Apply For A Pin."

Enter your personal information as directed.

Choose a 4-digit PIN for yourself. Avoid obvious selections like "1234" or your month and day of birth. If you later forget the PIN you've created, you can request a reminder email.

Tips & Warnings
Parents of dependent children will have to electronically sign the FAFSA forms as well, so parents should apply separately for their own PIN.
Take note of the warning not to share your PIN with anyone. It represents a legally binding signature, and will give the holder access to the personal and financial information you submit to FAFSA.
