You can refill your HP toner cartridge to save money on printer ink.

HP Desk Jet printer ink can be very expensive, especially if your printer gets high usage. Instead of spending the time on continually purchasing new toner cartridges, you may want to consider refilling them yourself. Replacement toner is much cheaper overall than cartridge replacement and it can be done from the comfort of your desk chair. If you decide to refill the cartridges yourself, you should be back printing in no time.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a layer of old newspaper on your work area surface. This will protect it from wayward ink.

    • 2

Remove the sticker on the top of the HP toner cartridge. There will be at least one hole which goes into the cartridge.

    • 3

Place the syringe tip onto the ink bottle which came with the ink replacement kit. Insert the refill bottle and syringe tip into the hole in the ink cartridge while wearing latex gloves.

    • 4

Gently squeeze the ink bottle so that the ink flows through the syringe into the cartridge. Once full, remove the syringe and replace the sticker on the cartridge. Clean up any excess ink with the paper towel.

    • 5

Gently wash the ink head with warm water and dry completely. Replace the cartridge back into the printer.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you are refilling a color cartridge, note that there are three different color chambers which need filling by the three different primary colors. You will need three different ink bottles.

  • Be very careful with the cartridge when refilling. If you go too fast, you may damage the cartridge which will cause it to no longer work.
