Treat your dyed black hair with a product specifically designed to remove hair dye. Ultimately the best idea for treating your dyed hair would involve going to a beauty salon and requesting to have the dye professionally removed. This option can, however, be expensive. If you cannot afford a professional's treatment, most beauty supply stores carry hair bleaching or dye-removing products. If you cannot find these products and your hair was dyed within the last few days, an aggressive anti-dandruff or clarifying shampoo may (over time and through many applications) help to reduce the presence of dye in your hair.

Baby your bleached or professionally treated hair. Stripping the dye from your hair or bleaching it severely weakens the hair shaft and sucks all the healthy oils out. If you do a poor job of bleaching it--leaving the bleach in too long, or applying more than recommended--the hair may fall out or break whenever you touch a brush or a comb to it. Condition it with the best soothing and moisturizing conditioner you can find, stay out of the sun for a few days, and wait until your hair's condition improves before you do anything else to it.

Re-color your hair when it no longer feels dry, brittle, or lifeless. Be careful not to re-dye your hair too soon after having bleached it: Hair can only take so much torture. Wait at least a week. Buy a high-quality dye and some high-quality post-coloring hair shampoos and conditioners, and be careful not to over-dye your hair.

Tips & Warnings

  • Adding a new dark color after bleaching or treating your hair to remove black may result in the hair appearing black again.
