How to Choose What Games to Play at a House Party

Choose the right game for your next party.

Whether it's as simple as pin the tail on the donkey or as complicated as a game of softball, adding a game or activity to your party can serve as the perfect form of entertainment. While a plethora of games exist, not every game works in every situation. The type of game or activity that is right for your party or occasion will differ based on a multitude of factors. Take these factors into consideration when planning your next party or event.

Instructions

1. Count the number of guests that will be in attendance. The size of your group may limit the type of party game that you are able to successfully execute. Team oriented games such as sports or outside games cannot be played with extremely small groups. Card games and other board games do not go over well in large groups, as doing so would require party goers to split up.

2. Survey your space. It is important to know how much space you have to work with. If you have access to a large amount of outdoor space, activities such as scavenger hunts, pinatas and sports will work out well. If you are limited in space, board games, cards and trivia may be the perfect fit.

3. Consider the theme of your party. Many games can add to the atmosphere of your theme party. For example, baby shower games should be baby themed in nature, such as guess the size of the belly, diaper changing races or guess the due date. If your party does not have a definitive theme, the game selection is much more open.

4. Keep in mind your age group. The age of your party guests greatly impacts the type of game you can play. For example, drinking games are an option for an over 21 crowd but not a kids party. When the party is kids oriented, consider what game will hold their attention and can be executed without much outside assistance.

5. Remember your budget. Party games such as charades require little to no money; however games such as sports may require you or your guests to buy equipment. Some games require a great deal of supplies and preparation, so if you are working on a budget, these games may not be right for your party.
