Take your MP3 songs with you by burning them onto a CD.

When you download MP3 music files to your computer, you can listen to your favorite artists and genres on your machine. If your computer is equipped with a CD burner, you can also take those songs with you by copying them onto a CD. You can use Windows Media Player, which is included with most versions of the Windows operating system, to burn MP3 songs onto a blank CD. If you do not have the software, you can download it for free from Microsoft (see Resources).

      Open Windows Media Player.

      Click on the "Library" tab.

      Select or create a list of music to burn. To create one, double-click on "Create a Playlist," located under "Playlists." Type in the name you want to give your playlist. Click on "Songs" under "Library" and select a song you wish to burn onto a CD. Drag the song to the playlist pane, located on the right side of the screen. Repeat until all the MP3s you want to burn are on the playlist.

      Insert a blank CD-R and click the "Burn" button. Windows Media Player will burn the music.

Tips & Warnings

  • The songs will be listed on the playlist in the order they will appear on the burned CD. If you want to reorder your selected songs, click and drag the songs up or down on the playlist to adjust their position.

  • You may also burn MP3 songs by using third-party software. There are many available programs. Follow the steps in the software's documentation to successfully burn music.
