How to Do Dreadlocks in Caucasian Hair
If you're planning on wearing dreadlocks, be aware that the styling process will be more complicated if you're Caucasian. That's because your hair texture is usually not as thick or coarse as a black person's hair. Despite that technicality, you can still create authentic dreads. It just takes a few extra supplies and a bit more patience. Although you don't need the services of a professional, make the job easier by recruiting someone to help with the back of your head. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Cut 20 to 25 strips of a smooth fabric, e.g., rayon, spandex or synthetic silk. The length should be equal to 2 1/2 times the length of your hair, while the width should be 3 to 4 inches.
-
2
Use a rat tail comb to separate one section of your hair that's about one half-inch to 3/4 of a square inch in size.
-
-
3
Apply a dime-sized amount of a strong gel or mousse to the entire length of the sectioned-off hair. Coat this piece of hair so that it's damp to the touch.
-
4
Place a small amount of strong hair wax on your fingertips and rub it onto the section. Start at the roots and rub backwards to the tip.
-
5
Dip your fingers in the wax again and then, beginning at the root, start twisting the hair section until you reach the tip.
-
6
Tie one pre-cut strip of material around around the root of the hair section. Wrap the strip around the section as tightly as you can. Use either a hair elastic or tie the material at the end.
-
7
Repeat this process for your entire head. Allow it to set overnight and then remove the strips of material. Spray with a firm hold hair spray to keep the dreadlocks from frizzing or coming undone.
