Instructions

    • 1

Read the host instructions for "How To Host A Murder: Chicago Caper." For the dinner party, you will want to turn an area of your home into a 1920's Speakeasy in old Chicago. To do this add long dark drapes, lots of candles or low wattage lighting and soft jazz, like Billie Holiday playing in the background.

    • 2

Select seven dinner party guests and include yourself if you plan on playing in the game. If you are planning on just hosting, select eight guests, ideally, four men and four women.

    • 3

Assign the roles to the guests you plan to invite. The characters for the game are: Billy "The Kid" Thrower, Anna Maria Carlotta Sassine "Torchy," Earnest "Bet A Million" G. Ambler, "Silky" M. Adam, Eddie "Socks" R. Gyle, Malissa F. Orrthot "Scoop," S. Treighton Harrow and Molly M. Awbsterr.

    • 4

Mail out invitations two to three weeks before the date of your murder party. Each invitation includes a description of the assigned character with costume suggestions for that specific role. Encourage everyone to dress for their part.

    • 5

Prepare the dinner and refreshments for the party ahead of time. Plan a break midpoint in the game for dessert. To stay in theme with the game, select recipes from the host's instruction packet that come with the game. Put on some Al Jolson music in the background to get in the mood.

    • 6

Decorate the table as if it were a table to fit within the Chicago "Caper" theme. Set the atmosphere with sultry lights and candles and as hostess, dress like a flapper. For each player set out a character guide, a name tag, some paper (so the player can take notes if he or she wants to) and a pen.

    • 7

Instruct the players on how they will play the game and seat all the guests at their appropriate places at the table. Treat them like guests visiting the Speakeasy.

    • 8

Start the game by having your guests listen to the CD with all the clues. The CD will have details of the murder. Remember that your group is gathered in a speakeasy close to "Hal Coppone's" hideaway and headquarters. But he disappears and his whereabouts play only a small part of the overall murder mystery that unfolds. Someone at the table has committed the crime and your guests must figure out who that is.
