The 3-dimensional roses are elegant when crocheted with a small steel hook and mercerized cotton thread for wedding items. Attach the yarn to the crochet hook. Chain 40 stitches. Make a single crochet stitch into the second stitch from the hook. In the same stitch make one double crochet, one treble crochet, one double crochet and finally, one single crochet.

    • 2

Skip over the next stitch in the chain and make the same series of stitches in the next stitch. Start with one single crochet, continue with one double crochet, one treble crochet, one double crochet, one single crochet. Repeat this set of stitches in every other stitch or link on the chain. Notice that the petals are being formed. They start to curve toward one another by the third set of stitches.

    • 3

Complete the end of the row with a slip stitch made into the final series of stitches. Cut the yarn.

    • 4

Thread the large-eye needle with a 7-inch piece of yarn. Knot the end. Begin to roll one end of the chain of petals into a tight bud. Stitch into the bottom of the bud. Continue rolling the chain of petals and sew the coiled portion at the bottom to secure it.

    • 5

Shape the rose as the chain of petal shapes are coiled and sewn together. The tighter the coil the more compact the rose shape will be. Keep the coil loose for a full-bloom crocheted rose.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sew the roses to a completed crocheted project with the same color yarn or cotton fiber.

  • Make sure the bottom edges of the rose petal row are secured with the needle stitches or it could unravel.
