Determine the type of model you want to become. There are different types of modeling, such as plus-size modeling, high fashion modeling, lingerie modeling and body parts modeling. If you are 5'8" or taller, you can pursue a career in high fashion modeling, where you can walk the runway in Paris, Milan, or New York City.

Get into good shape, in accordance to the requirements of your desired type of modeling. High-fashion modeling may have specific weight requirements. Contact modeling agencies in your area and inquire about the weight requirements. You will need to have your measurements on hand when speaking with an agent. Your measurements are the sizes of your hips, waist and bust.

Take photographs that display your potential as a model. You can have a professional photographer take a few photos for your portfolio. Many agencies will require a headshot and a full body shot for the first time. You can also create a full portfolio by compiling 5 to 10 photographs to show prospective agents your range.

4
Research reputable modeling agencies in and around your area. You can review the popular modeling agencies, such as Ford and Wilhelmina, and see if they have branches in your area. You can also verify the legitimacy of any modeling agency by contacting the Better Business Bureau.
-
5
Go on open calls at different modeling agencies. Open calls allow you to see the agents and show your potential as a model. During an open call, you will walk and you will have your picture taken. You can also give the agent one of your professional photographs. Open calls usually occur in the morning and they are usually on a weekday. Contact the modeling agency for the correct day and time of the open calls.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure you contact a reputable modeling agency. If the agency requests money up front, it might be a scam. The agent only gets paid when you get paid for a job.
