How to Make a Pop Up Display

Make a Valentine's Day pop up display.

A pop-up display will fascinate children who love storybooks. A few basic construction techniques combined with paper and glue deliver an unfolding surprise. Make a pop-up display for Valentine's Day with a simple heart pattern, and surround it with small bowls of heart-shaped candy and candles. Scale down the pop-up display for a personalized Valentine's Day card.

Things You'll Need

• Plain paper
• Pencil
• Scotch tape
• Cardstock paper
• Scissors
• Glue

Instructions

1. Create a template for the Valentine's Day pop-up display by drawing one heart 6 inches tall and two hearts 3 inches tall.

2. Position the two smaller hearts near the bottom of the large heart along the entire lower edge of the smaller hearts. The small heart bottom "points" will be located 1 inch from, and on ether side of, the large heart bottom "point." Tape the small hearts to the large heart.

3. Trace the template on the cardstock and cut it out. Crease the large heart in half so the edges point away from you. Crease the lines between the large heart and the smaller hearts away from you.

4. Position a piece of cardstock that is 9 inches by 11 inches in front of you and fold it in half lengthwise. Open it back up.

5. Glue the smaller hearts to the cardstock approximately 2 inches from the crease. When the display is closed, the large heart will lie flat, and when it is opened, the heart will stand up.
