How to Replace an Outdoor Doorbell
If family and friends have visited your home and tried to ring your doorbell only to find it does not work or sounds sick, then you need to replace it. Fixing a doorbell can get put off because homeowners have more pressing repairs---for example, a leaky toilet. However, replacing a doorbell does not require any special skills, and within an hour or two, your doorbell will work again for guests to use. Does this Spark an idea?

Turn off the power to your doorbell system at the main circuit box in your home. Find the circuit marked doorbell and push the switch to the "off" position.

Remove the doorbell switch on the outside of your home by unscrewing the screws with your screwdriver and set them aside. Gently pull the doorbell switch away from the wall.

Unscrew the wires from the doorbell switch to disconnect them and secure them to your home with tape. This will prevent them from slipping into your wall. Pick up the new switch and use a screwdriver to connect these wires to it.

Remove the cover plate of the doorbell chime unit inside your house by removing the screws. Unscrew the mounting screws holding your chime unit and detach it from the wall.

Disconnect the wires from your chime unit and label them with some tape and a pen. Once again, tape the labeled wires to your wall.

Thread the wires you labeled in their specific holes through the base of your new chime unit. Attach the unit to your wall with the mounting screws that came in the package.

Screw the wires to each of the terminals on the new chime unit. You marked the location for the wires in step 5.

Reattach the cover plate by screwing it back in place. Turn the power back on to the doorbell at your main circuit box.

Tips & Warnings
Do not replace your doorbell in the rain, as this can cause electrocution.
