How to Make Your Own Lip Gloss for Kids

Powdered drink mix adds color and flavor to lip gloss.

Lip gloss comes in different colors and flavors, so you can choose one that fits your personality. While your parents can buy lip gloss for you at the store, it will fit your personality even better if you make it yourself. Lip gloss is easy to make at home and all the ingredients are edible. You can make as many colors and flavors as you want.

Things You'll Need

• 1 tbsp. powdered drink mix
• 2 tbsp. hot water
• 2 small bowls
• Spoon
• 1 tbsp. vegetable shortening
• 1 tsp. honey
• 1/2-oz. metal tin

Instructions

1. Choose a powdered drink mix in the color and flavor you want. For example, if you want the gloss to be red, you should choose a cherry or strawberry mix.

2. Pour 2 tablespoons of hot water into a small bowl and add 1 tablespoon of the drink mix. Stir the mixture until the powder dissolves. Set this aside.

3. Scoop 1 tablespoon of vegetable shortening into a separate small bowl. Add 1 teaspoon of honey and stir until the two are completely mixed.

4. Add the flavored mixture to the shortening and honey mixture 1/4 teaspoon at a time, stirring well to mix the color evenly. Continue until you achieve the color you want.

5. Scoop your lip gloss into a 1/2-oz. lip-gloss container, making sure you pack it together to eliminate air bubbles. Store it in the refrigerator and use it within three days.
