How to Comfirm Immigration Status in the USA

Check your immigration status at the USCIS web site.

If you have applied for immigration into the United States under any of several programs, Customs and Immigration Services should have sent you a receipt for your application. That receipt has a 13-digit number that you can use to track the process of your application. Using your receipt number, you can find out your immigration status as your case proceeds. You can also change your address if you move.

Instructions

1. Go to the "Check My Case Status" page on the U. S. Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS) website.

2. Enter your receipt number in the area provided. Do not enter any dashes.

3. Click "Check Status." Your case information will appear.

Tips & Warnings

• You can sign up for free automatic emails about your case status. Click "Sign-up for Case Updates" on the left side of the "My Case Status" window.

• You may not check the immigration status of another individual without their permission. If you are an employer, you can sign up for E-Verify to verify the documents of persons you employ. You must then use it to verify the immigration status of all employees; you cannot use it to try to check the immigration status of any specific person you wish.
