How to Repaint a Pool Slide
Pool slides are a fun way to make swimming at home closer to the swimming experience at a water park. Over time, however, the paint on the slide may peel off, leaving a rough, unsightly surface that is nearly impossible to slide on. If the pool is made of fiberglass, the slide can easily be repainted and refinished to return to the smooth texture of the original pool. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Clean the surface of the pool slide with dish soap, water and a sponge. This will remove any major dirt and debris from the surface of the slide. Clean the top, sides and bottom of the slide.
-
2
Pressure-wash the surface of the slide to remove any peeling paint, or tough stains and dirt that cannot be removed with a sponge. Wash the entire slide, and not just the top sliding surface. Allow the slide to dry for about two hours.

-
3
Wipe the surface of the slide down with mineral spirits and an old rag. Do not use turpentine, as this can ruin the finish on the fiberglass slide. Allow the slide to dry for 24 to 48 hours.
-
4
Mix the paint with the paint stirrer until there are no bubbles or lumps in the paint surface. Pour some of the paint into the shallow container.
-
5
Dip the roller into the epoxy paint, and roll it across the container surface until the paint roller no longer drips when you lift it. The roller should have paint on it, but it should not be able to run down the sides or handle of the roller.
-
6
Roll a thin coat of paint over any side of the slide that you can reach with the roller. Fill in any spots that the roller cannot reach with a paintbrush. Allow the paint to dry for four hours.
-
7
Apply another coat to the slide. Allow this coat to dry for four hours as well. If the slide still looks like it needs more paint, apply one last coat and allow to dry for three days before using the slide near the pool. Water can damage the paint if it is placed on the slide too soon after painting.

Tips & Warnings
Apply paint when temperatures are between 40 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
If it rains during the drying time for the slide, move the slide into the garage or another covered area until the rain has passed.
