How to Use Coupons at CVS Pharmacy

How to Use Coupons at CVS Pharmacy thumbnail
CVS is much more than a pharmacy.

Through the Extra Care Bucks program at CVS, many customers of the pharmacy chain can net free or almost free merchandise during visits to the store. By adding manufacturer's coupons to the mix, those same customers can net even more savings and free merchandise by shopping the sales ads and matching coupons to sales. It is a simple process once the customer gets a basic understanding of the program.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign up for the CVS Extra Care rewards program by asking a cashier for an application, or visit cvs.com and click on the "Extra Care" link at the top right side of the page. Click on "create a new account" and enter your name and contact information.

Sign up for email updates while on the website or in the store. By signing up, you will receive special coupons and sales not available to non-members.

    • 3

Check out the weekly sales flier on the website. Note any sales for items that you might purchase anyway. If you see a notation that the purchase of an item will yield Extra Care bucks, take note. Extra Care Bucks are printed at the bottom of your receipt and act like gift certificates for CVS that can be used on your next purchase. Most times they expire one month after they are printed.

Match a coupon to a sale item to receive the most savings on a purchase. CVS's coupon policy allows for one manufacturer's and one CVS coupon to be used per purchase. This allows additional savings to add up quickly. For example, if you are buying $2 Dial soap and you have a $1 coupon from Dial and a $1 CVS coupon for Dial soap, you get the item free.

Check the Extra Care Coupon Center on each trip to your CVS for additional savings. This large red computer is typically at the front of your store. Scan your Extra Care card and watch as coupons are printed specifically for you. Sometimes, the coupons will reduce your total purchase, such as $5 off of a $15 purchase. These coupons can be used in addition to any other coupons tendered, so be sure that the cashier scans this coupon first before your total falls below the minimum required purchase.

Tips & Warnings

  • Many coupon bloggers tout CVS and other retail pharmacies as great places to get amazing deals on toiletries. These "loss leaders" are used to get customers into the store in the hope that they will buy full-priced items as well. Search CVS fan websites, such as I Heart CVS, to find out how super shoppers have used coupons to purchase items at significant discounts.

  • Remember to keep track of your Extra Care bucks to be sure they are used before they expire. They are just like gift certificates and can be used on any item in the store.
