Homemade Facial for Oily Skin
If you have oily skin, you may have experienced issues with clogged pores, your face feeling coarse, and acne. While oily skin can be considered a teenage problem, it can happen at any age--including during pregnancy and menopause, when hormonal imbalances increase the production of sebaceous glands. 1
Combine one packet of unflavored gelatin with one cup of tomato juice in a clean, heat-safe container. Heat gently in microwave for up to one minute, or in a double-boiler on top of your stove, to dissolve the gelatin thoroughly. Stir the mixture well.
-
2
Remove the gelatin and juice mixture from the heat and place it in the refrigerator. Chill for up to 30 minutes--until just before the gelatin starts to set.
-
-
3
Wash your face thoroughly with mild soap or cleansing cream, then apply an astringent to remove dead cells, soap, or cleansing cream residue.
-
4
Apply the gelatin mask gently, using your fingers or a small spatula. Cover your face with a light and even coat, avoiding the eye area. Use a gentle, upward touch on your face. Avoid pulling your facial skin downward.
-
5
Relax for 15 to 20 minutes with the mask on your face. Avoid moving your mouth--including activities such as talking or drinking--for the entire time the gelatin mixture stays on your face. After 15 minutes, touch the mask lightly with your fingertips to test for dryness.
-
6
Remove the mask by placing your thumb and index finger under your chin and peeling in an upward motion until the mask is removed.
-
7
Rinse your face thoroughly with tepid water until all residue is gone, then pat your skin dry with a clean towel.
-
8
Discard any leftover material, or refrigerate in a clean jar or covered container for one to two weeks. Apply the mask every three days if you have extremely oily skin. Using it more frequently may cause problems with your skin.
