How to Sew Cording on a Pillow
Throw pillows add a nice touch to the décor of many homes. If you can sew your own pillows, you can add a little bit of interest to them by sewing cording around their edges. Consider cording that matches the fabric, contrasts with the fabric or brings out a color in the print. Decorative cording comes in many shapes and sizes so you can find something that matches your throw pillows perfectly.

1
Measure the perimeter of the pillow with the tape measure and cut out a piece of cording that is about 4 to 5 inches longer.
-
2
Pin the cording to the edge of one side of the pillow's exterior, starting in the middle of one side. Work around the whole pillow until the cording is pinned securely. Make sure the seam allowance on the cording is facing the seam allowance on the pillow.

3
Place the zipper foot on your sewing machine and sew the cording to the pillow with a straight stitch and normal tension along the seam allowance.
-
4
Cut the cording ends where they meet, leaving about 1 inch on each side. Lay the pieces of cording over one another, wrapping them around and tucking them into the interior part of the pillow fabric. Sew over the cording where it meets, a few inches on each side, and backstitch.
-
5
Lay the other side of the pillow over the one with cording so the right sides of the fabric are facing each other. Make sure the cording is tucked into the middle of both pieces of fabric. Sew the pieces of fabric together with a straight stitch and normal tension. Leave a large enough gap in the pillow to insert the pillow form.
-
6
Turn the pillow right side out, so the exterior of the pillow is showing. Place the pillow form in the pillow and sew the opening shut with an invisible hand stitch.
