How to Create a PDF Booklet

How to Create a PDF Booklet thumbnail
You can create a PDF booklet using Adobe Acrobat or Reader.

A Portable Document Format (PDF) booklet is a multipage document that is arranged so that when it is printed, the pages are in the correct order for a folded book. You can create and print a PDF booklet using Adobe Acrobat or Reader. It's a good idea to set up and lay out the document in a design program, such as Microsoft Publisher or Adobe InDesign, or a word processor, before converting to PDF. By doing so, you can freely format the booklet before using Acrobat to print it.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the design or word processing program of your choice. Enter all the content needed for your booklet. Format the text by choosing the fonts, font size and other text attributes as desired. Create as many pages as you need for the booklet.

    • 2

Save the file. Edit the content as much as possible, because it is much more difficult to make changes once the file is converted to PDF.

    • 3

Save the document as a PDF. If you're using Microsoft Office programs, such as Publisher or Word, click the "Microsoft Office Button," then point to "Save as." Select "Save as PDF or XPS." Choose "PDF" from the "Save as Type" menu and click "Publish" to save the file. If you're using Adobe InDesign, click "File," "Export" to save the file as a PDF.

    • 4

Open the PDF document you just created in Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader. Reader is available for free on the Adobe website.

    • 5

Select "File, Print." Make sure your printer is properly installed and connected to the computer. Select your printer from the "Printer" menu.

    • 6

Select "Booklet Printing" from the "Page Scaling" drop-down menu" under "Page Handling."

    • 7

Select the amount of pages you want to print under "Print Range." Select "All" to print the entire booklet.

    • 8

Click the "Booklet Subset" menu. The booklet needs to be printed on both sides of the paper, so click "Front Side Only" to first print the pages on the front side of the paper. Select "Both Sides" if your printer is capable of automatic duplex printing and skip Step 11.

    • 9

Select the binding orientation next to "Binding." Choose "Left" for regular printing. Choose "Left (Tall)" to create a long and narrow booklet.

    • 10

      Click "Print."

    • 11

Take all the pages that printed on the front side and flip them over. Feed them back into the printer. Click "File, Print" again. Now select "Back Side Only" under "Booklet Subset" and print the remaining pages. Skip this step if your printer supports automatic duplex printing.

    • 12

Gather the pages in the correct order and fold them along the center fold to complete the booklet. Bind the booklet by stapling along the fold.

What version on Reader are you using? I can't find this on 9 for Mac. There is no "Page Handling" section.
