Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the chimney pipe and locate the damage. Determine how many sections of the chimney are affected by the damage. If it is more than one, all the sections must be removed.

    • 2

Lay plastic along the floor under the pipe to protect it from soot. Put on eye protection and a dust mask.

    • 3

Loosen the screws around the edge of the joints on both ends of the pipe section with a screwdriver. Place the screws in a safe place for use later.

    • 4

Pull the damaged section of pipe down and away from the pipe section above it. Work the pipe gently back and forth until it comes free. Pull the pipe back slightly and then pull it up off of the pipe below it. If the pipe will not slide free, cut out a section of the damaged pipe with a reciprocating saw. Remove the remaining sections of damaged pipe by pulling them off of the chimney sections.

    • 5

Inspect the pipe above and below the damaged section for signs of cracks, obstructions or creosote buildup. Clean the pipe with a wire brush if necessary. Remove all obstructing debris.

    • 6

Replace the damaged section with a new section of chimney pipe. Slide the pipe onto the chimney sections. Secure it in place by screwing in the mounting screws with a screwdriver.
