How to Get Your W-2 Form From Social Security

If you file a Social Security claim or are in need of a W-2 for the purpose of resolving a conflict with the Social Security Administration, you may obtain copies of this form through the SSA. The copy of your W-2 is provided in the form of a microprint. You can get your W-2 form from Social Security as long as you have proof of your identity and with some determination to follow through on your task.

Instructions

1. Visit a local Social Security Administration office. If you do not know where the nearest office is, click on the link in the Resources section, type in your zip code and look at the results page for a map to the nearest SSA facility.

2. Inform a Social Security Administration representative that you want to get your W-2 form from a specific year in order to resolve an issue with SSA.

3. Complete an application to receive the W-2 form by providing information like your name, address, Social Security number, birth date and the tax year of the W-2 form that you need in order to resolve your SSA matter. Sign the bottom of the form and hand it, along with your state-issued photo identification card, to the representative. This is a free service.

4. Receive your W-2 form in the mail from Social Security or pick it up at the SSA office in about four weeks.

• The Social Security Administration does not provide W-2 forms unless you need them to assist with settling a Social Security dispute or claim.
