Decorating Kids' Rooms With an Army Theme
Themes provide guidelines for choosing a color palette and give structure to the kinds of accessories you choose for the room. An army-themed room brings to mind certain colors and images. This theme allows for modifications over the years so the room remains age-appropriate for your child. You may, however, go overboard with theme decorating. A little planning and a light hand with patterns go a long way toward keeping your army-style bedroom tasteful and fun. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Paint the walls a light beige color, and the molding and trim varying shades of green. Create a mock-camouflage effect on the trim by painting it dark green, dipping a rag in lighter green paint and rolling the lighter paint over the first color.
-
2
Spread a solid-green top sheet over the bed's box springs so that the ends hang over the sides of the bed, covering the frame. The hanging sheet should look like a tailored bed skirt.

3
Cover the mattress and pillows with striped bed linens. Cover the bed with a camouflage bedspread.
-
4
Hang camouflage netting over the windows as army-themed shears. Drape them over existing curtain rods and arrange them so they cover the entire window.
-
5
Place themed area rugs next to the door and bed. These may include a simple eagle insignia, or the traditional Army star. Set a green-shaded lamp, small plastic army tanks and fake plastic grenades on furniture as accessories.

Tips & Warnings
For a girl looking for a more feminine army theme, use pastel green, blue or pink camouflage for your color palette. Hang vintage Rosie the Riveter and Air Force posters on the walls.
Choosing linens with stripes that match an army color palette play to the theme without allowing typical army patterns to become overwhelming.
