How to: USD Conversion to GBP
Countries have different currencies, and the exchange rate defines the difference between those currencies. Currency exchange rates change daily, and many factors--like a country's economic policy, the leading bank's fiscal policy and market volatility--affect the exchange rate. To figure out the conversion between USD and GBP, you can use a conversion calculator. Then exchange the USD for GBP at a number of venues.

Figuring Out the Exchange Rate

Go to XE.com (link provided in Resources). Beneath "Convert this amount," type the number of USD you wish to convert. Click the "From this currency" drop-down menu and select "USD United States Dollar," then click the "To this currency" drop-down menu and choose "GBP United Kingdom Pounds." Click "Go" to tell you how many GBP your USD is worth.

Go to "Coinmill: Convert USD to GBP" (link provided in Resources). Enter the number of USD you wish to convert to the left of "United States Dollar." Click "Convert" to display the number of GBP your USD is worth in the box, to the right of the currency flags.

Go to Onada (link provided in Resources). Enter the number of USD you want to convert in the "Amount:" box under "Currency I have." Click the "Currency I want" drop-down menu and select "British Pound." The GBP amount will be automatically updated, to display what your USD is worth.
Converting Your USD to GBP

Call your local bank and ask them if they do currency exchange. If they do, visit the bank and ask the teller that you wish to convert USD to GBP. Give them the money, or charge it your account, and they will exchange it.

Find your local Travelex (see Resources). Click "Continue," select your "Region" from the drop-down menu, then click "Continue." Select your "Country," click "Continue," then either choose your "City" or "State" from the drop-down lists provided. If there is a store near you, visit the store with the USD that you wish to convert. Ask the teller to convert your USD into GBP.

Go to the currency exchange bureau at your local airport. If you cannot see it, ask at the Information Desk. At the exchange bureau, ask them to convert the amount of USD you have, into GBP.
