This sewing machine as a level deck with the table and bolts that provide stability.

Sewing-machine tables have a rectangular desk, usually with a recess in the center to fit your sewing machine. The recess allows your sewing-machine deck to rest even with the table's desk. The even leveling makes it easier to move fabric across the sewing machine, avoiding wrinkles or bunching. For old sewing machine tables installed with new sewing machines, the trick is mounting the machine into the recessed desk for stability. Fortunately, this process is straightforward and won't take but half an hour to complete.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean your old table to prepare it for installing the sewing machine. Use wood-cleaning solution to clean off any gunk or dust around the mounting holes on the recessed portion of the desk.

    • 2

Lower your new sewing machine into the recessed shelf on the desk. Kneel down below the desk or look above it and see whether the mounting holes on the sewing machine align with the mounting holes on the sewing table. Move the sewing machine around to try to find a positioning where the holes align. If they don't, continue to Step 3. Otherwise, proceed to Step 4.

    • 3

Insert the pen through the mounting holes on the sewing machine and mark spots on the recessed shelf of the table where you need to drill new holes. Use a variable-speed drill to drill new holes into the table. Brush off any chips or dust from the holes and place the sewing machine back on the recessed shelf. Insert bolts through the mounting holes to check that they all align properly.

    • 4

Mount the sewing machine to the old sewing table using the mounting hardware. Insert all of the bolts into the correct holes on the machine and the old sewing table, and then tighten the machine to the table using the nuts and washers with the monkey wrench.
