1
Wash your hair, or decide if you'd like to style it without being cleaned first. Depending on the type of hair you have, you may find it easier to style and straighten your hair when it has not been washed in a day or so and is already dry. If not (i.e. for thinner locks or grease-prone hair), wash with a shampoo and conditioner, towel dry thoroughly, and comb hair with a wide-tooth comb.

2
Apply a hair straightening, or frizz-easing, cream to already damp hair. Comb through. If hair is dry, wait until you have completely styled your hair to apply a finishing cream.

If hair is wet, dry thoroughly with a blow dryer or allow to completely air dry. Your hair must be dry before applying a hot iron, or else risk burning or singeing hair follicles. Even slightly damp hair will not respond well to straightening and will be less likely to hold a particular style.

Plug in and turn on your Farouk Chi Flat-iron. If you are using the Chi Turbo or the Digital Flat Iron, move the heat setting to your desired temperature. Both irons can reach temperatures between 176 and 392 degrees; use a higher heat setting for thicker, curlier hair, and a lower setting for finer hair. If you are using the Original Chi Ceramic Hairstyling Iron, which has only one setting, simply turn on the straightener by flicking the "On" switch. The red light will indicate that the straightener is heating up.

5
Divide hair into smaller sections using a comb and hair clips. Taking a 2- to 3-inch lock of hair, comb hair downward from the root using a barrel brush or a regular comb, and follow slowly with the Chi. Brushing or combing while straightening will ensure that hair is straightened evenly and will prevent it from becoming tangled.
-
6
Straighten the rest of your hair in this manner, small pieces at a time. Take your time, and avoid straightening the same area twice, as this is more likely to burn or damage hair.
-
7
After hair is completely straight and styled in the way you'd like, apply a frizz-ease or finishing cream to hair, and comb through one last time.

Tips & Warnings
Be careful while using the Chi at its highest setting- the ceramic can become very hot.
Like all electrical appliances, avoid contact with water, especially while the straightener is on.
When you are finishing using the Chi, make sure that is is turned "Off" and that the red light is off. Unplugging the straightener is a way to make sure it is completely off.
