How to Make Towel Diaper Cakes

Diapers keep babies dry and washcloths and towels help keep them clean--a mother can never have enough of any of these supplies. Make an adorable and useful baby shower gift by rolling and stacking diapers, towels and washcloths into a towel and diaper "cake." Decorate it with additional small gifts for the baby that will make the new parents' lives easier.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out two regular-sized bath towels on your work surface so they run horizontally and are end to end.

    • 2

Fold each towel in thirds lengthwise, making sure to keep the folds even for both towels.

    • 3

Fold each towel once more in half lengthwise, again keeping the folds even for both towels.

    • 4

Connect the towels by safety-pinning the end of one towel to the end of the other towel.

    • 5

Roll the connected towels, from left to right, into one big roll. Start at one end of one towel and roll all the way to the far end of the other towel.

    • 6

Tie a strip of ribbon around the rolled towels, in a bow, to hold them together. Trim the ends of the ribbon so they are even.

    • 7

Lay out your diapers so they run horizontally, end to end.

      .

    • 8

Tape the diapers together, end to end, with clear packaging tape.

    • 9

Roll the diapers into one big roll, the same as the bath towels, and secure the roll with ribbon tied in a bow.

    • 10

Lay out your washcloths horizontally, end to end. Fold the top edge of each wash cloth down to the middle of the cloth.

    • 11

Pin the washcloths together, end to end.

    • 12

Roll the washcloths into one big roll and tie a ribbon around them in a bow.

    • 13

Stack the layers of your cake, with the bath towels on the bottom, the diapers on top of them and the washcloths on the very top.

    • 14

Wrap ribbon around the cake, starting with one end of the ribbon at the top, then down one side, under the cake and back up the opposite side. Tie the ends of the ribbon together in a bow.

    • 15

Repeat the ribbon wrapping process a few more times, working your way around the cake so the stacks stay in place.

    • 16

Attach small gifts for the baby, such as pacifiers, rattles, booties and small stuffed animals, to the diapers, towels, washcloths or ribbons using safety pins.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure to let the gift recipient know that there are pins in the cake, and how many pins, so she can remove them all for baby's safety.
