How to Create a Girl Avatar
The idea of an avatar--an embodiment--has been around for a long time. In video games, social networking and chat rooms, avatars are used to represent you. Girl avatars are basically portrayals of a female individual, but not necessarily embodiments of females in general. Almost all of the avatar creator tools that you'll find online allow for the creation of avatars for both sexes. Examples of these tools include Build Your Wild Self, Dream Avatar and Girls Inc.

Visit Girls Inc.'s website (see References) and select one of the facial expressions for the girl avatar from the tool on the bottom of the screen. To change to a different expression, simply choose a different option.

Click the "Eyes" tab on the top of the screen, to the right of the girl avatar, then select from one of the eye colors available to the right. Select the eye color in much the same way as you selected the facial expression. If you don't see a color you like, use the box labeled "or make your own" to create your own eye color.

Click the "Hair" tab next to "Eyes" and select the style of your choice, then select a hair color. Customize the "Shirt," "Fun Stuff" and "Background" the same way.

Right-click on the avatar and select "Print," then follow the wizard to print out the picture of the avatar you created. If you want to save the avatar, you'll have to create a Girls Inc. account, using a valid email address and date of birth. Girls Inc. accounts are free, as of 2010.

Visit the Dream Avatar website (see References) and select "Start" to begin.

Select the gender and body type for the avatar from the drop-down menus on the top left and right. Body type selections include "Normal Avatars" and "Special Avatars," which include angels, orcs, aliens and elves. Click on the body type to select it; to change it, click on a different option.

Click on the "Hair" tab on the top of the screen and select the hairstyle and color of your choice.

Select the "Eyes," "Mouth," "Items" and "Outfits" in the same manner in which the hairstyle and hair color were selected.

Click "Save Avatar" and select "Finish" to finish creating your avatar.

Copy the URL code to the right of the completed avatar, then paste the code wherever you are using your avatar, or save it in a word processing document such as Microsoft Word.
Build Your Wild Self

Visit the Build Your Wild Self website (see Reference) and type your name in the box labeled "Your Name."

Select the gender for your avatar from the selection on the right side of the screen and select the skin color from the selections below the gender types.

Click on the "Hair" tab to the right of the avatar and select the hairstyle and hair color for your avatar. Click on the "Eyes" tab to continue.

Select the eye shape and color, then click on the "Mouth" tab. Customize the "Clothes," "Headgear," "Ears," "Face," "Arms," "Bottoms," "Backsides," "Tails" and "Background" in the same way as well.

Click "I'm Done" when you're finished customizing your girl avatar, then select "Go Wild Again" to create another avatar, "Send to a Friend" to email the avatar to a friend, "Get a Wild Desktop" to make your girl avatar into your desktop wallpaper or "Print Your Wild Self" to print an image of your creation.
