Make a QCP Ringtone

A ringtone (or ring tone) is an audible file that plays a sound on a cell phone for incoming calls or text messages. Most phones with firmware dating from mid-2005 until the present utilize "realtones" as ringtones and support audio formats such as MP3. However, for phones with older firmware, the QCP ringtone file type must be utilized. A program created by Qualcomm, Pure Voice Converter, will quickly and easily convert an audio file type to a QCP ringtone with just one drag and drop (See Resources).

Things You'll Need

  • Wavepad or another audio editing application installed
  • WinZip or other unzipping utility installed

Instructions

    • 1

Download the Qualcomm Pure Voice Converter and save the ZIP file to the desktop (see Resources).

    • 2

Right-click the zip file and click "Extract to Here". An EXE file will be extracted to the desktop.

    • 3

Open an audio clip in Wavepad or another audio-editing application.

    • 4

Clip a small portion, about three to five seconds of audio, from the audio clip for the ringtone. To do this, highlight the wave file in the audio editor before the start point for the ringtone and delete the wave, then highlight the wave after the ending point for the ringtone and delete.

    • 5

Save the ringtone clip as a WAV file by clicking "File", and then "Save As". Select the "WAV (*.wav)" file type from the File Type dropdown box.

    • 6

Type a name for the ringtone WAV file and click the "Save" button.

    • 7

Open Windows Explorer by right-clicking on the Windows "Start" button and clicking the "Explore" link.

    • 8

Navigate to the ringtone WAV file in Windows Explorer.

    • 9

Left-click and hold the mouse button on the ringtone WAV file and drag the file onto the Pure Voice Converter EXE file on the desktop. A black window will appear, and then disappear. The QCP ringtone file will be created in the same folder as the ringtone WAV file.

    • 10

Upload the QCP ringtone to the phone according to the directions provided in the phone's manual.
