How to Prevent License Plate Theft on Trailers
Most people know how to protect their valuables that they assume could be stolen. You even know to lock your car or trailer and turn on the alarm if you have one to prevent someone from stealing your vehicle. However, you may not consider that thieves may just want to steal your license plate. Criminals use stolen license plates to disguise stolen vehicles, commit crimes undetected in their own vehicles and commit traffic violations. There are methods you can employ to prevent the license plate of your trailer from being stolen.

1
When your trailer is not in use, don't park it in dark or unattended areas. Try to find a well-lit area with plenty of people around who would notice someone prying off your trailer's license plate.

2
Install an alarm system on your trailer. The alarm system should be programmed to sound off when someone touches your trailer. Put the alarm on when you're not around to prevent license plate theft.

Use an anti-theft product. These types of products are offered by companies such as Lock-Um, Superior, and Plate Keeper. These products are attached to your license plate and increase the time it takes for a thief to remove your trailer's license plate. Companies like Lock-Um create frames that go on top of your license plate, which are locked and need to be removed before anyone could even get to your plates. Companies like Superior and Plate Keeper, on the other hand, design special screws that attach your license plate to your trailer and take a longer time to remove than regular screws if you don't have the special tool that comes with them.
