How to Convert Google Maps to KM

Google Maps will use either miles or kilometers, depending upon the measurements used in the country you are mapping. For example, maps of the United States will use miles, while maps of Great Britain or Canada will use kilometers. Use the mapping options to change from miles to kilometers, or to change kilometers to miles, as you prefer.

Instructions

1. Open the Google Maps website, and click on the “Get Directions” link.

2. Enter the start and end addresses, landmarks or cities for your trip, then click on the “Get Directions” button. The map will be generated, with directions listed with distances in the default measurement for that country.

3. Click on the “Show Options” link. It is just below the text field where you entered your destination.

4. Click on the “km” radio button to change miles to kilometers, or on the “miles” radio button to change from kilometers to miles.

Tips & Warnings

• Convert miles to kilometers by multiplying by 1.609. Five miles is a little over eight kilometers. Google maps have a map rule in the lower left showing the scale for both miles and kilometers.
