How to Make Oil Olive Organic Soap

Organic olive oil soap is both cleansing and nourishing to the skin.

To make a successful batch of organic soap, it is important to use a base of oils that will be cleansing to the skin, as well as nourishing. Olive oil is just such an oil. When selecting an olive oil to use for soap making, look for one that is organically produced. Organic olive oil will not contain pesticides or herbicides, which could potentially irritate the skin. You can find organic olive oil to use for soap making at any health food store or natural market.

Things You'll Need

• Organic olive oil, 32 oz.
• Lye, 7 oz.
• Water, 16 oz.
• Essential oil, 1 tsp.
• Pot
• Glass
• Cooking thermometers (2)
• Soap mold
• Wooden spoon
• Knife

Instructions

1. Pour 32 oz. of organic olive oil into a pot. Place a cooking thermometer into the pot to monitor the temperature. Heat the olive oil until it reaches 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Pour 8 oz. of lye into a glass. Add 16 oz. of water to the lye and stir well. Place a second cooking thermometer into the lye water. The lye will chemically react with the water and will create heat. When the lye water is 110 degrees Fahrenheit, pour it into the olive oil.

3. Pour 1 tsp. of an essential oil of your choice into the mixture. Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon until it thickens. This can take around 30 minutes.

4. Pour the mixture into a rectangular soap mold. Place the soap mold into a dark room for 7 weeks. This will allow the soap to cure and harden.

5. Remove the soap from the mold. Cut the soap into 1-inch thick squares.
