How to Build a Wagon

How to Build a Wagon thumbnail
A wagon is a four-wheeled cart.

Wagons are four-wheeled carts that are useful for multiple purposes. There are many different kinds of wagons, such as covered wagons that have a tarp that covers it, horse-drawn wagons and hand wagons. Making your own wagon is a fairly simple project that is made easier by the availability of wagon axle kits. A homemade wooden wagon could be a toy or a handy way of carrying things.

  • Table saw
  • Two 3-foot-by-1-foot plywood boards

Instructions

    • 1

Attach one of the 3-by-1 plywood boards to the 3-by-2 plywood board so that the two 3-foot edges meet at a 90 degree angle. Apply wood glue to the 3-foot edges and use a staple gun to attach the pieces together. Repeat this step with the remaining 3-by-1 on the opposite side.

    • 2

Attach one of the 2-by-1 plywood boards to the 3-by-2 plywood board in the same manner. Repeat with the remaining 2-by-1 on the opposite side. You should now have a wooden box that is 3 feet long, 2 feet wide, and 1 foot high.

    • 3

Attach a pivoting wagon axle to one end of the wooden box.

    • 4

Attach the handle from the wagon axle kit onto the pivoting wagon axle using the pieces provided.

    • 5

Attach the fixed wagon axle to the wooden box on the end opposite the pivoting wagon axle.

    • 6

Attach the wagon wheels to each end of the wagon axles using the pieces provided.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wagon axle kits are available online and include a wagon axle that pivots, a wagon handle, a fixed wagon axle, four wagon wheels, and all the screws needed to put the pieces together.
