Planning a trip to Hong Kong, or contacting a Hong Kong company on buisness typically requires placing an international call to the country. This involves entering international, country and city numeric codes ahead of the telephone number, as well as knowing the time in Hong Kong before calling. For example, Hong Kong is 13 hours ahead of the United States' Eastern Standard Time Zone, which means if it is 3 p.m. in New York City, it is 4 a.m. the following day in Hong Kong.

Instructions

1. Pick up the phone, wait for a dial tone and dial the international calling code 011. Keeping a Chinese phrasebook nearby can provide a quick aid to communication so the call is completed faster at less expense.

2. Dial 852, which is Hong Kong's country code.

3. Dial the eight-digit phone number for the individual or company being called. The country no longer uses a three-digit city code for dialing, so it is only necessary to dial 011-852 and then enter the eight-digit phone number.
