How to Make Bitty Baby Bracelets

Bitty baby bracelets are handmade pieces of jewelry that are a perfect gift for any infant. You can make one for your own child and then treasure it as a keepsake for many years, or you can craft one for a friend’s baby shower or a niece’s first birthday. These bracelets are usually personalized with the baby’s name, so no matter who you give a bitty baby bracelet to, it will be a special gift that they can keep forever.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure your child’s wrist so that you know how large your bracelet should be. Your bracelet, including the length that the clasp will add, should be approximately half an inch to an inch larger than your child’s wrist. That way, your bracelet will not be too tight and your infant will have a little room to grow, but your bracelet will also not be so big that she can pull it off.

    • 2

Design your bitty baby bracelet, keeping in mind the size that you are working with. For safety reasons, do not use glass beads; acrylic beads will not shatter accidentally if your baby falls and hits the bracelet. Make sure that your design includes durable beading wire or strong cord, so that your child cannot pull on it and break it.

    • 3

Purchase the necessary materials at your local craft store or from a reputable dealer online.

    • 4

Begin working from the center of the necklace by spelling your child’s name with the white alphabet beads and separating the alphabets with spacer beads. Make sure you don’t pick up the cord at this stage, or all the beads will slide off.

    • 5

Add more acrylic beads in equal amounts to either side of your bracelet, to keep it symmetrical and ensure that your baby’s name ends up in the exact center of the bracelet.

    • 6

Grab one end of your cord and fasten a small binder clip onto the end. This will prevent the beads from sliding off one end while you finish the other side.

    • 7

String a bead tip and a crimp bead onto your free cord end. Use crimping pliers to fasten the crimp to the wire and then use a little superglue or craft glue to secure the crimp bead. Close the bead tip to hide your crimp bead and then add a jump ring to the bead tip.

    • 8

Unfasten the binder clip from the other end and repeat the previous step to finish the other end of the cord.

    • 9

Finish your bracelet by adding a lobster clasp to one end of your bracelet. You should let the glue dry for a few hours, but after that you can put your bitty baby bracelet on your infant and start taking pictures.
