How to Make Windows Look Like Mac OS X Leopard

Operating systems such as Windows 7 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard differ in boot times, computing power and graphics performance. Although Windows can be run on an Intel-based Mac, Mac OS X Leopard can only be run on a Mac. PC users, however, can design their Windows desktops to look like Mac OS X Leopard by installing some free, downloadable applications and graphics.

      Remove all unused application shortcuts and icons in order to have a clean desktop. Right-click the desktop and scroll down to "Arrange Icons By." Uncheck "Show desktop icons." Access the "My Computer," "My Documents," and "Recycle Bin" standbys from Windows Explorer to retrieve removed application shortcuts and icons. Right-click the Windows Taskbar and select "Properties." Check the box "Auto-hide the Taskbar" and click the button "Apply" to remove the bottom Windows taskbar. Uncheck the box if you prefer to have the taskbar back.

      Use a search engine to locate and download high-resolution Mac desktop wallpapers to use in Windows. Apple has downloadable Leopard wallpapers (see Resources). Download the zipped file of the selected desktop wallpaper and extract it.

      For Windows XP, right-click the desktop and scroll down to "Properties." Select "Desktop" tab and click "Browse" to select your wallpaper file. Under "Position" on the "Desktop" tab, choose "Center," "Tile" or "Stretch" to change how the display of the wallpaper looks on the desktop. Click "OK" after the wallpaper is set.

      In Windows Vista and Windows 7, right-click in any empty area of the desktop. Select "Personalize" and choose "Desktop Background," which is second from the top. Select "Browse" to search the location of the wallpaper file and select it. Click "OK" after the wallpaper is selected for the desktop.

      Browse and install your favorite Mac Icon Sets from DeviantArt.com (see Resources). Download the zipped file of the Mac Icon Sets to your desktop. These will change the look and feel of your current Window application icons.

      For Windows XP, right-click on any part of the desktop and select "Properties." Choose the "Desktop" tab at the top of the "Display Properties" window and click "Customize Desktop" button. Select the "General" tab, then click on the icon to modify from the display of system icons. Click the "Change Icons" button to browse the computer for the new icons. Click "Ok" and "Apply Changes" after selecting the new icons.

      For Windows Vista and Windows 7, right-click on any part of desktop and select "Personalize." Click on "Desktop icons" and ascertain that the box is checked for "Allow Themes to change desktop icons." Right-click on the desktop again, select "Personalize," and click "Change desktop icons." Browse the downloadable folder containing the Mac Icon Sets and assign each icon manually after clicking on "Change Icon."

      Also, download the "Mac Cursor or Pointer set" from DeviantArt.com to the desktop. Unzip the folder containing the Mac cursors or pointers. Right-click the "Install xxxxxx.inf" file and select "Install." Choose one of the cursor sets in the control panel and the cursors will be automatically set up.

      Download the free application "RKLauncher" (see Resource). It has a Mac-like dock or animated Mac taskbar. Drag all application shortcuts and icons on the desktop to the bottom Mac-like dock.

      Download and install widgets from Yahoo! and Google to add more features on your Mac-like PC desktop. Also, download Apple software applications like Safari, QuickTime and iTunes.
