How to Activate Preloaded Microsoft Office Pro 2007

Microsoft employs their activation process as a means to deter software pirates. Without a proper activation, Microsoft Office Pro 2007 will become unusable within 30 days. Microsoft claims that the activation requirement allows for a better user experience, as the company can spend more time enhancing the office suite and supporting paying customers instead of fielding support calls from software pirates. Fortunately, activating the office suite takes less than five minutes and can be easily completed.

Things You'll Need

• Valid Microsoft Office Pro 2007 product key
• Internet connection or telephone line

Instructions

1. Locate your Microsoft Office Pro 2007 product key. In most cases, it can be found on the CD jacket of the disc labeled “Microsoft Office Pro 2007” that came with your computer. If it is not there, you will need to contact your computer manufacturer to obtain a replacement key.

2. Open a Microsoft Office program such as Word, Powerpoint or Excel.

3. Click the round “Microsoft” orb button located in the top left corner of the window.

4. Click the “Accession options” entry.

5. Click “Resources.”

6. Click “Activate.”

7. Choose either “I want to activate the software over the Internet” or “I want to activate the software by telephone” and click next.

8. Dial the phone number listed on the next page and enter your product key via your telephone keypad when prompted to do so by the operator. Listen carefully as the operator reads you a number sequence that you must type into the activation wizard on your computer. Click finish to complete the activation process. If you chose to activate via the Internet, disregard this step and move directly to step 9.

9. Type your product key in the boxes displayed on the next screen and click “Activate.”

10. Wait while the activation wizard confirms that your product key is valid and unlocks the software. This can take up to several minutes depending on the speed of your Internet connection.

11. Click finish.

Tips & Warnings

• Note that in some Microsoft Office applications, the activation wizard is located under the “Help” menu instead of the “Microsoft” orb. To access the wizard, simply click the “Help” menu and select “Activate Product.”

• If you are unsure of whether or not your product has already been activated, follow the instructions to open the activation wizard. If it has already been activated, you will see a message stating, “This product has already been activated.” If you do not see this message, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the activation process.
