A sewing machine presser foot needs maintenance to run well.

The Viking Rose sewing machine, made by Husqvarna, is a combination sewing and embrodery machine. With a digital panel on the side, it is a sophisticated machine. Though some parts are electonic, many of the parts need to be dusted and cleaned. Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the sewing machine. Remove the needle and presser foot. The presser foot is the small attachment that advances and guides the fabric as the needle inserts the thread to make a seam. Unscrew the nob that holds the needle and place the needle in the trash.

    • 2

Remove the presser foot using the latch on the back. Wipe the presser foot with a lint-free cloth or soak in a small dish of sewing machine cleaning fluid. Purchase sewing machine cleaning fluid at your local sewing machine dealer or on-line. Dry completely.

    • 3

Open the bobbin case of your sewing machine. The Viking Rose has a drop-in bobbin case. It is the part of the sewing machine directly below the needle.

    • 4

Remove the bobbin by sliding it out of the bobbin case. Remove the thread from the bobbin and wipe the bobbin with a lint-free cloth.

    • 5

Twist and remove the shuttle which holds the bobbin. The shuttle is the small metal or black plastic case that holds the bobbin. Brush the shuttle lightly with a soft nylon brush or use canned air. Use a toothpick to remove any hard-to-remove thread that is stuck in the shuttle. Do not use metal on the shuttle. You can scratch the shuttle and that will hurt the thread uptake. Wipe the shuttle down with a lint-free cloth and a dab of rubbing alcohol.

    • 6

Look inside the machine in the space where the shuttle was just removed. Thread frays during sewing and will accumulate around the shuttle area. Vacuum out any lint, dust, and thread that has accumulated.

    • 7

Wipe down the entire machine with a lint-free cloth dipped in the rubbing alcohol or other gentle cleaner. Use a small amount as the Viking Rose has metal parts and you do not want any rust accumulating on your sewing machine.

Tips & Warnings

  • Clean one thing at a time. Sewing machines have many parts and they may get lost if all taken apart at once.

  • Keep your sewing machine covered when not in use.

  • Clean your sewing machine every 8 to 10 hours of use.
