How to Make Redneck Fishing Lures

Make your own Redneck bottle cap fishing lures from items in the home.

Making your own fishing lures is more scientific than anglers may realize. Studies have shown that fish can see in color almost as distinctly as humans can. Colors travel differently under water, and a complex study proved that cooler hues are seen at a farther distance than warmer colors.

Combine these colors with shiny metal bottle caps and you have a lure capable of catching a big one. Redneck bottle cap fishing lures are made from recyclable beer bottle caps. Like many home-made redneck fishing lures, these lures are inexpensive and have been proven to catch fish.

Things You'll Need

• Ice pick
• Hammer
• 120 grit sandpaper
• Split rings
• Bottle cap
• Pliers

Instructions

Redneck Bottle Cap Lure

1. Flatten the beer bottle cap using a set of pliers, Bend the fins of the cap outward toward the printed top to form a flat disc.

2. Use an ice pick and a hammer to punch a hole at the top and bottom of the fishing lure through the fins.

3. Insert a split ring into the bottom hole to hold a treble hook. Insert a barrel swivel into the top hole to complete the assembly. Bend the lure in half using a pair of pliers. Sand off the rough edges with 120-grit sand paper.
