How to Create & Organize Household Bills
Every household has bills to pay. If you are not careful, your bills can become the source of great frustration. That is why it is important to create a system for tracking and organizing household bills. Without such a system, bills can be misplaced and due dates could be missed causing extra expenses and stress. Don't let that happen to you. Mark the due date for each bill that you need to pay on each month of a calendar.

Attach the calendar, opened to the current month, to the front of a file folder with binder clips.

Place the file folder on your desk or wherever you pay your bills. Be sure the folder is located where you will see it on a daily basis as a reminder to pay any bills that are due.

Place incoming bills inside the file folder as soon as they come in the mail.

Label a file folder for each household bill that you pay on a regular basis.

Place the labeled file folders in alphabetic order in a file box or file cabinet.

Check your calendar each day to see if any bills need to be paid. As you pay each bill, put a check mark next to that bill on the calendar to show that it has been paid.

Write check numbers or other important information on the receipt for each bill as you pay it. File the receipts in the appropriate file folder in your file box or file cabinet.

Tips & Warnings
At least once a year, purge your files of any receipts that you no longer need to keep. For privacy purposes, it is a good idea to shred anything that you discard.
