How to Make a Simple Can Crusher
If you have a lot of cans in your house and are looking for a way to make recycling easier then look no further than making a simple can crusher. You just crush the cans as you empty them and make them much more convenient to store until you can dispose of them. The construction is incredibly simple and requires no special equipment or power tools. You can secure the crusher to a table or surface if you will always be using it in the same location. Things You'll Need
- 5 cm thick wood
- Strap hinge
- Screwdriver
- Short screws
- 2 jar lids
- Cabinet door handle

Cut 2 pieces of 5 cm thick wood to 40 cm long and 12 cm wide. Use a table saw to make the 2 pieces.

Attach the strap hinge to the wood. Once piece of wood should be secured onto each side of the hinge.

Screw the hinge onto the end of the length of each piece with a screwdriver and short screws.

Lay the wood in front of you so the hinge is on your left and opens to your right.

Screw one of the jar lids onto the inside of the bottom piece of wood. Place the lid near the end of the wood further from the hinge.

Set a screw right through the middle of the lid and into the wood with a screwdriver.

Attach the second lid to the inside of the upper piece of wood so that it is in the same position as the lower one.

Turn the crusher so the hinge is away from your and the crusher opens towards you.

Screw a cabinet door handle onto the face of the upper piece of wood. This will help you control the crusher when crushing cans.

Tips & Warnings
You can make a bigger crusher for larger than normal cans by lengthening the wood pieces.
Keep your hands away from the can while you are crushing it.
