How to use Salicylic Acid Paste
Salicylic acid paste is typically available at most drugstores, grocery stores, or by prescription to help skin conditions such as acne, warts or psoriasis. Salicylic acid paste available over the counter (OTC) at most stores has a content of 0.5 percent to 2 percent salicylic acid, while prescription pastes have higher concentrations. The use of salicylic paste may cause mild irritation or stinging when applied to the skin. Contact a doctor with any questions.

1
Gently cleanse the area with mild soap and lukewarm water. Do not use harsh cleansers or very hot water, because this may irritate the skin further. Warts, corns and calluses may be soaked in warm water for five minutes prior to salicylic acid application to soften the area.
-
2
Use a clean cotton pad to apply a quarter-sized amount of salicylic paste to the affected area. You can also use a small, clean paintbrush or a clean cotton swab to apply the paste.

3
Leave the salicylic paste on the area for at least two hours. Keep the area out of the sun during this time, because sun exposure may cause irritation.
-
4
Wipe off the paste with a clean, wet cloth or cotton pad.

5
Repeat as needed until the condition improves. See a doctor if there is no improvement after two weeks.
