How to Build a Spear Gun
A spear gun used for hunting fish consists of a sharpened hand-held spear with a way to propel it towards the target. You can build a spear gun from a few supplies purchased from a hardware store combined with a number of common household items. You will not need more than a half hour to build your spear gun. Get adult supervision if you are underage since cutting tools will be used that could cause injury if mishandled.

Tie a knot in the two ends of the surgical tube. Make a one inch deep slit across the length of one of the ends of the wooden dowel with the knife.

Place the loop at the opposite end from the knot into the slit at the end of the wooden dowel. Wrap a piece of duct tape around the end of the wooden dowel so that the loop of surgical tubing is secure.

Sharpen the other end of the wooden dowel into a point with the blade of the knife.

Put your right hand through the loop at the end of the surgical tubing. Place your right hand on the middle of the wooden dowel. Put your left hand on the wooden dowel next to the sharpened end. Push the wooden dowel back towards your right hand using your left hand. Remove your right hand.
