A mohawk is a creative way to style your hair.

For centuries, people have been shaving the sides of their hair and letting a center stripe fly in the "mohawk" style. In 2003, an Irish corpse dating back 2,300 years was found with this haircut and a form of hair product in his tresses. The Mohican Native Americans also wore their hair this way. Now, punks across the world have mohawks frequently styled into individual spikes called "liberty spikes," reminiscent of the crown on the Statue of Liberty. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your hair thoroughly with a straightening shampoo to remove hair product residue.

    • 2

Blow-dry the mohawk up and outward to encourage wavy hair to stand up straight. This might be easier with your head bent down.

    • 3

Use a hair straightener to straighten wavy hair upward.

    • 4

Divide your mohawk into three or more even sections and separate them with rubber bands.

    • 5

Take out the rubber band from the front section of hair and use hair gel or a strong hairspray to make the section stick together and stand up.

    • 6

Blow-dry the spike with your head down, using gravity to your advantage.

    • 7

Move on to the other sections, creating spikes one at a time until all sections are complete.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure to blow-dry each spike until it is completely dry to ensure maximum straightness.

  • Beware of touching your shaved scalp with the heated hair straightener.
