How to Calculate the TCP Checksum

The transmission control protocol, or TCP, checksum is a number that is associated with an Internet connection. This technology refers to the exact way in which your computer connects to other networks. In particular, the checksum of a TCP is the total number of bits of data that are being transmitted at a time. This enables you to make sure everything you're sending is being received on the other end of the line and vice versa. If you want to calculate the TCP checksum information for your own Internet connection, all you have to do is look at your Internet connection's "Status."

Instructions

    • 1

      Click "Start."

    • 2

Highlight the "Settings" folder and then click "Control Panel."

    • 3

Open the "Network Connections" icon in the Control Panel.

    • 4

Right-click your Internet connection's icon. It doesn't matter whether you have a dial-up or broadband connection, that connection will have an icon in this folder.

    • 5

Click "Status." Look towards the bits of information in the box that are labeled "TCP." This will be the TCP checksum of your Internet connection.
