How to Make a Cone-Shaped Paper Hat
One of the most iconic party decorations is the festive cone-shaped hat. A staple of children's parties, cone hats are fun for all ages. While there are a wide variety of hats available ready-made at party supply shops, crafting a cone shape party hat at home, to match the party's theme, is simple and just requires basic materials you probably have on hand. Things You'll Need
- Thick paper, at least 12 inches high by 19 inches wide
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Glue stick
- Stapler
- Poster paint
- Brush
- Hole punch
- 10 inch length of elastic
- Pompom (optional)

Measure and draw a triangle with pencil on the thick paper that is approximately 12 inches high and about 19 inches wide at the base. Erase the 19-inch line at the bottom and redraw a rounded line that curves gently from one leg of the triangle to the other. Cut along the line. Use this as a template to trace and cut as many of the hats as you will need.

Apply a thin layer of glue along one edge of the triangle, from base to point.

Roll triangle into a cone, overlapping the edges about 1 inch at the glue seam. Press together firmly. Staple at the bottom to help hold glue in place as it dries.

Allow glue to dry completely.

Paint designs or patterns onto the outside of the hat using the poster paint and the brush. Allow to dry.

Use the hole punch to punch a hole on one side of the hat, about 1 inch from the bottom. Punch another hole directly opposite the first one.

Thread the elastic into the punched holes and knot to secure. This elastic will go below the wearer's chin to hold the hat onto their head.

Glue a pompom on the top point of the hat, if desired.
