How to Stop Web Pop-Ups on Spyware Software

Toward the end of the 2000s, spyware creators began developing fake anti-spyware software that would display pop-up windows warning against spyware, Trojans or malware. Many of these popups would then demand payment for the removal of this false-positive spyware. If you are experiencing pop-ups warning of spyware, then you should consider cleaning your computer with authentic anti-spyware software.

Instructions

  1. Using SUPERAntiSpyware (Freeware & Shareware)

      Go to the SUPERAntiSpyware website (see Resources).

      Click "Free Edition Download" or trial the "Professional Edition".

      Install SUPERAntiSpyware, then open the software.

      Click "Yes" when the update definitions prompt comes up.

      Click the "Scan your Computer" button to begin a spyware scan.

      Wait for the scan to complete, then click "Next" to delete any spyware that has been discovered.

    Using Spybot Search & Destroy (Freeware)

      Go to the Spybot Search & Destroy website (see Resources).

      Scroll down to the "Download" section and click the "Download" button.

      Install, then open Spybot Search & Destroy.

      Click "OK" to begin the setup wizard, then follow the on-screen instructions to set up the application.

      Click the "Search for Updates" tab, followed by "Download Updates".

      Click on the "Search for Updates" tab, followed by "Check for Problems".

      Wait for the scan to complete, and then click "Fix Selected Problems" if any spyware is discovered.

    Using Windows Defender (Freeware)

      Go to the Windows Defender website if you do not already have it installed (see Resources).

      Click "Download" to download Windows Defender.

      Install, then open Windows Defender.

      Click the "Scan" drop-down menu and select "Full Scan".

      Click the "Scan" button to begin a scan of your computer. Windows Defender will automatically clear any spyware it finds.
