How to Connect an USB to a 25 Pin Printer Cable

Use an adapter to connect your older printer to a USB receptacle.

As computers and computer hardware advance in speed and connectivity, devices and connection types can become obsolete before their functional lifespan has ended. You may have an older printer that is in perfect working order, but your new computer may not support its 25-pin connection type. Fortunately, connection adapters are readily available, solving the problem of connecting two pieces of equipment that otherwise would not be compatible.

• USB to 25-pin adapter

Instructions

1. Purchase a USB to 25-pin adapter. These adapters are available at many electronics or computer retail stores and online (see Resources for some options).

2. Power off your computer and printer. Connect your 25-pin printer cable to the corresponding input of your adapter. Secure the thumb screws with your fingers.

3. Connect the USB plug of your adapter to any USB receptacle on your computer, or to your USB hub. Power on your computer first, then your printer. Your computer will recognize your printer and should operate normally.
