How to Install a Flowmaster Muffler on a Mustang
Flowmaster pioneered the refinements that have made swapping out mufflers one of the most common changes for those looking to get a little more out of their car. The exhaust note that a Flowmaster muffler makes is much more aggressive than the stock mufflers that the Mustangs come with. Now that Flowmaster makes direct replacement mufflers any do-it yourself Mustang owner can change from the stock muffler to a Flowmaser muffler in their own backyard.

1
Brace the exhaust pipe by placing a jack stand beneath the exhaust pipe. The jack stand keeps the pipe from falling as the muffler is cut off the pipe.
-
2
Cut the original muffler off the exhaust pipe directly behind the muffler with a hacksaw or rotary tool. Debur the cut edge of the exhaust pipe with a metal file to round over sharp edges.
-
-
3
Remove the original muffler from the muffler-body mount by pulling the muffler towards the center of the Mustang.
-
4
Place the Flowmaster muffler mounting hook into the muffler-body mount by sliding the hook into the runner bushing in the center of the mount.
-
5
Push the muffler onto the exhaust pipe. The pipe slides into the tube extending out of the back of the muffler.
-
6
Place a 2 1/2-inch U-clamp around the joint between the muffler and exhaust pipe and secure the clamp into place by tightening the two bolts. If the Mustang is a GT with dual exhaust, complete the same process with the other muffler.
