How to Grow Grass in Fall
Autumn is an ideal time to plant new grass due to cooler temperatures and decreased water evaporation as the grass grows. Planting grass in the fall allows turf to become established before going dormant for the winter. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Set the blade of a lawn mower to its lowest setting and mow any existing grass in the area where seed is to be planted. Rake the entire area vigorously to remove thatch, clippings and debris and loosen the top layer of soil.
-
2
Set a walk-behind seed broadcaster to half the rate recommended on the seed package for planting a new lawn. Fill the broadcaster with grass seed and push from one end of the planting area to the other and back in straight lines. Refill the broadcaster when the entire area has been covered and repeat the application, running the broadcaster perpendicular to the initial application of seed.

3
Set the nozzle on a garden hose to mist and thoroughly water the entire planting area. Repeat watering every 12 hours or as needed to prevent the seed from drying out. Grass seed fails to germinate if the seed dries out during the initial growth period. Continue twice daily watering until the seed has germinated and the new grass reaches two inches in height.
