How to Drift in Mario Kart DS
Mario Kart DS is a racing game for the Nintendo DS portable console. It originally appeared in the U.S. on Nov. 14, 2008. Mario Kart DS is the fifth installment in the Mario Kart series, which dates back to the Super Nintendo era. Upon its release, Mario Kart DS received a rating of 9.0 across the board on video game review websites. The game has been praised for its online competitive play and advanced graphics.

Pick any character and load up a race in Mario Kart DS.

Hold down the "R" button when your character makes a turn on a race track. You will begin to slide around the turn at an angle. This is the game mechanic you'll use to drift your character around turns.

Shift between pressing the left and right buttons on the D-pad during a drift. This will cause your car to shoot red sparks from the wheels. Continue hitting the left and right buttons until the sparks turn blue. Release the "R" button and your car will gain a boost in speed. This is known as a power-drift.

Tips & Warnings
Learning to properly drift around a corner can be difficult at first. You have to plan the turn ahead of time.
