Instructions for Using a Scroll Saw
Saws come in many types, depending on the kind of work you need to do and what you need to cut. One type of saw you can use to cut wood and other types of material is a scroll saw, which is used to create designs and intricate cuts in wood. You can use a scroll saw to make a straight cut or a curved cut by following a simple set of instructions.
Instructions
-
Straight Cut
-
1
Verify that the power cord for the scroll saw has been plugged into an electrical outlet.
-
2
Place a ruler or square on the piece of wood you want to cut, and draw a straight line with the pencil.
-
-
3
Press the power button or flip the switch to turn on the saw. Allow the saw to reach its full operating speed.
-
4
Align the mark you made in Step 2 with the blade. Push the piece of wood slowly into the blade with your hands on both ends of the wood.
Curved Cut
-
5
Place a design or pattern on the piece of wood, and trace around it with the pencil.
-
6
Cut or trim excess wood from around the outline by making a "rough cut," which reduces the size of the wood to an easier-to-maneuver piece.
-
7
Align the wood with a line on the design or pattern, and push the wood into the blade. Turn the piece of wood with your thumbs.
-
8
Continue turning and pushing the piece of wood until you have cut out the design or the pattern.

Tips & Warnings
Adjust the height of the guard on the blade to rest on top of the piece of wood that is going to be cut.
Use safety goggles when cutting wood or other material with a scroll saw.
Forcing the wood into the blade can cause the blade to break or twist.
